I wanted to share something with you I just found out. I”m sure quite a lot of you watch The Vampire Diaries. I myself had been reading the books by LJ Smith for quite a while before it became a television show.
I just learned on twitter of all places, that LJ Smith was fired earlier this year from writing the continuing book series. I know what your first question is. How can someone be fired from writing their own book? Well apparently she was the not the owner of the books. She was contracted in the 90′s to write the series by Alloy Entertainment. The books will continue to be written, but by a ghostwriter. As a writer, I couldn’t imagine what it must feel like to have your work taken away from you and given to someone else. I can only imagine devastating.
The answer to your second question is no. This change will not affect the television show. The show has completely different writers. According to her, Alloy Entertainment and her publisher HarperCollins, were not pleased with the direction she was taking the series…and here is where a lot of you will have opinions. She was setting up a Damon/Bonnie romance.
It has been a while since I’ve read any of the series, but even I could see that’s where she was headed. In the books, Damon has a special spot for Bonnie. Now if you’ve read the books and watched the show, you have to agree with me that they are two separate entities. That’s why I can say that I would not have minded a Bonnie/Damon romance in the book version, but in the television show…NO WAY! Now Damon and Elena, that’s another matter. Stefan is just too boring. What do you think?
